Kids activities

Free things to do with kids in The Hague

The Hague has many easy, free activities for au pairs and young children. You do not always need tickets or a big plan. A playground, library, city farm, park or short beach visit can already make a great outing.

Playgrounds and parks

Good free options include playgrounds in or near the Paleistuin, Clingendael, Westbroekpark and neighbourhood playgrounds. Choose a place that is easy to reach and where the child can actively play.

Libraries

Libraries are useful on rainy days or quiet afternoons. Check the website of the local library before you go, because libraries often organise free story time, craft activities or school holiday programmes.

City farms

Stadsboerderijen are a very Dutch and child-friendly outing. Children can see animals, walk around and practise gentle behaviour around animals. They are usually calm, low-cost or free, and easy to combine with a small snack break.

Beach and shells

A short beach visit can be enough for young children. Collect shells, look at the waves, draw in the sand or take a short walk. You do not need to stay for hours to make it feel special.

Keep outings simple

For young children, the best outings are often short, predictable and close to home. Bring water, snacks, wipes and an extra layer, and tell the child clearly what will happen next.
